Lappula occidentalis var. occidentalis

This is a common spring-flowering species in rocky areas at low elevations. It is often called Lappula redowskii, though this is apparently a misapplication. It is distinguished from Lappula occidentalis var. cupulata by having the spines of the nutlets distinct (rather than confluent). Flowers are usually blue, occasionally white.
