Streptanthus carinatus

This is a common species in comparatively moist rocky areas at lower elevations in southern NM and can be quite abundant in some areas.

A flower on the south rim of Kilbourne Hole, 2/20/05. This coloration is fairly typical, though often plants lack the pinkish hue on the sepals.



A flower on the east side of the Franklin Mts., 3/12/05. This red form is much less common. Apart from the Franklin Mts., I've seen this form on the west edge of Crow Flats along the escarpment of Otero Mesa, just north of the Texas border.
