Glandularia bipinnatifida (Nutt.) Nutt. var. brevispicata Umber

The common Glandularia of southwestern New Mexico and adjacent Arizona. This variety is taller than G. b. var. bipinnatifida, and generally has both more glandular inflorescences and flowers of a bright magenta rather than the paler lavender of G. b. var. bipinnatifida.

A halved flower on the Dripping Springs Trail on the west side of the Organ Mountains, Doña Ana County, New Mexico, 4 Oct 2009. I presume that the dark dot on the left at the mouth of the tube is the gland for which the genus was named.
